Alexander Gustafsson

Alexander “The Mauler” Gustafsson is a Swedish mixed martial artist fighting in the UFC’s light heavyweight division. He is scheduled to face former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones on December 29 for the UFC light heavyweight title.

Gustafsson started his career as a boxer and Alexander Gustafssonwon the national youth championship in 2003. In 2006, he decided to make a career change and started his MMA training. Even though he briefly returned to boxing in 2008, he decided to pursue MMA full time and signed with the UFC in 2009.

Gustafsson made his UFC debut in November 2009, defeating Jared Hamman in a first-round knockout. However, he suffered defeat in his second fight after getting choked out by Phil Davis in 2010.

After the loss to Davis, Gustafsson went on a tear, winning his next six matches, which helped him get a title shot against Jones in 2013.

Despite not being given much of a chance against Jones, who was dominating the division at the time, Gustafsson went all five rounds with the champion in what was one of the best fights in UFC history. But, despite his performance against the champion, Gustafsson was unable to get a rematch after the fight.

An injury forced him to pull out of a scheduled rematch with Jones in 2014, and the fact that he lost two of his next three fights after his loss to Jones also prevented him from competing for the light heavyweight title for two years.

Now that he is finally getting the rematch he has been looking for, Gustafsson will try to take advantage of the opportunity and become the first Swedish UFC champion in history.  The UFC 232 rematch will be held on 29th December at T-Mobile Arena.
